What to pack in your hospital bag?

Getting your hospital bag packed and ready to go means that your due date is approaching!!! Exciting times right?!?! I must admit I didn’t pack mine until I was 36 weeks pregnant.  The reason why I started packing my hospital bag was because one of the expecting mums in our NCT antenatal class has given birth 5 weeks early.  It took me less than one hour to get the hospital bag ready, I did my research on what to pack a while ago and getting stuff ready actually was not that difficult.  Also, I only lived 20 minutes away from the hospital, so even if I left something at home that I need, a family member can always go and get it for me.  Ever since I got my bag ready, it followed me wherever I go just in case!  Do remember to include your maternity folder in your bag.

I have chosen to use a big travel bag to put all my items in. So here is a list of what I have packed.

  • 1 pack of maternity towels
  • 2 loose sleep tshirts (easy access for breastfeeding)
  • 5 pairs of comfy underwear
  • 2 nursing bras
  • toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, shower gel, shampoo)
  • towels
  • slippers
  • breast pads
  • 10 nappies
  • 1 pack of baby wipes (only a small pack of sample)
  • 2 baby sleepsuits
  • 3 baby bodysuits
  • baby blanket
  • baby hat and mittens
  • 1 pair of socks for baby
  • baby cardigan
  • car seat

This is a list of what I have actually used during my hospital stay.

  • half a pack of maternity towels
  • 2 pairs of underwear
  • 1 loose sleep t shirt
  • 1 nursing bra
  • toiletries
  • slippers
  • breast pads
  • approx 5-8 nappies
  • 1 baby sleepsuits
  • 1 baby bodysuits
  • baby blanket
  • baby hat and mittens
  • baby socks
  • car seat

If you are unsure of what your baby should wear after he or she has been weighed, ask the midwives, they will pick out what best to wear.  Also, the hospital has provided us with cotton balls to clean the baby during nappy change.  I do recommend brining some snacks and your own water bottle with you as buying snacks at the hospital shop can be pricey.  Hope this help!
